Founded in 1971 in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais, as Sicafe Produtos Siderúrgicos Ltda., the company began with a single blast furnace producing pig iron for Brazil´s domestic market. Over the years, the company expanded its capacity with two additional furnaces to serve international clients.

In 2000, Tecnosider Siderurgia Ltda. was formed and took over SICAFE’s operations.
Blast furnace No.1 was shut down in 2006, and in 2018, blast furnace No.3 was rented to Metalsete Siderurgia Ltda., which began operating it in February that year.
