The history of the Hohenlimburg rolling mill reaches back more than 400 years. In 1619, wire production began in the Hohenlimburg area, laying the foundation for a long industrial tradition. The Limburger Fabrik- und Hüttenverein, established in 1846, became the basis of the later steelworks.

A decisive turning point came in 1907, when the company merged with Dortmund-based Hoesch. Hohenlimburg subsequently developed into a specialist rolling works, producing band iron and later focusing increasingly on rolled strip. In 1938, the works became the Hohenlimburg division of Hoesch AG.

A new medium-wide strip mill began operation in 1955. Further mergers and reorganizations followed, while major investment in 1985 modernized the mill. Today, thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg continues this tradition, producing hot-rolled precision strip for industrial customers.
