kwk Marcel, Radlin
The history of coal mining in Radlin dates back to 1883, when the Mauve pit (pit Wiktor nowaday) was dug. The mine was originally called ´Emma´ until 1949, when it was renamed in honour of Józef Kolorza, a communist and participant in the Upper Silesian Uprising, whose nickname was ´Marcel´.
In 1903 the Grundman pit (pit Antoni nowadays) was excavated.
The first electric mining machine was installed at the Wiktor pit in 1915.
Julia pit was opened in 1950.
Between 1966 and 1968 the Antoni pit was completely modernised, including the construction of a new concrete mining tower.
The mine was incorporated into the ´Spółka Węglowa S.A.´ group in 1993 and later on in 2003 into the ´Kompania Węglowa S.A.´ group.
In 2016 the Marcel mine became part of the "Polska Grupa Górnicza" group together with the Chwałowice, Jankowice and Rydułtowy mines.
