The Aceros Inoxidables Olarra steelworks, located right next to the Bilbao airport, was founded in 1955 by Luis Olarra.
The AOD converter was put into operation in 1963 already enabling the production of stainless steel.
In 1980 it was incorporated into the ACENOR (Aceros del Norte) group.

Ingot casting was replaced in 1986 by a continuous casting machine. The caster underwent a complete modernisation in 2000.

Today, Aceros Inoxidables Olarra is one of the world´s leading stainless steel producers.
