Somers Forge

Somers Forge

Although the Somers Forge in the industrial part of Dudley was founded in 1866, its roots can be traced back to Joseph Folkes, founder of the Lye Forge (1697), whose descendants then helped build the forge near Birmingham.

The forge originally focused on the manufacture of chains and anchors, but the portfolio was soon expanded to forged axles and bumpers.

In 1917, Seth and Frank Somers, sons of the original owner, took over the company.
During the Second World War the production then concentrated on components for the British Navy.

Today, Somers Forge is one of the world´s leading manufacturers of forgings for the navies from 1kg to 80 tonnes.
