Infrabuild Laverton

Infrabuild Laverton

Laverton is an industrial suburb of Melbourne.
In 1983, Smorgon Steel commissioned the first steel plant there with one 83t electric arc furnace here. The bar mill, which was relocated from one unnamed Canadian steel plant (built in 1924), was commissioned just one year later.

In 1987 Smorgon Steel merged with Humers ARC, the owner of the adjacent land, to form Smorgon ARC.
In 2007 the production was taken over by the Australian company OneSteel. OneSteel was acquired by businessman Sanjeev Gupta in 2017 to form Liberty Onesteel, which later became Infrabuild Laverton.

The annual capacity of Infrabuild Laverton plant is 600,000 tonnes of steel.
