The history of the forge in swedish town of Karlskoga is dating back to 1646. The original "Boofors Bruk" factory, like many others at that time, was manufacturing basic tools, iron bars and small castings.
Major development was made in 1873 with the foundation of the first limited company Bofors AB. The open-hearth steel plant and a modern forge were built and the production range focused on the weapon industry.
The production of crude steel was declining in the second half of the 20th century and only the forge survived.
In 1995 the forge became part of Scana Steel and was recently sold to Cascade Corporation (based in the Oregon, USA). The Booforge AB is a leading producer of lifting forks and open die forgings today.
