The original owners of the foundry and engineering works, established in 1888, were wealthy Jewish entrepreneurs Tain and London. During World War II, they were deported to a concentration camp, from which they never returned. Before their deportation, they transferred their property to Jan Plaček.
Plaček came to Valasske Mezirici from Hluk in the 1930s during the economic crisis and gradually became a key figure in the company.
After the war companies were nationalized and Plaček tried to keep his property, but he didn´t succeed. However, thanks to his expertise and diplomatic skills, he was able to remain in a management position and continue his professional career.
The company was gradually incorporated into Strotex, and later into "Výroba sdělovacích a zabezpečovacích zařízení" (VVSZZ, Communication and Security Equipment Manufacturing). From 1965, the foundry operated as an independent plant under AŽD. In October 1997, ZEKOM slévárna s.r.o. was established.
The foundry, equipped with a pair of cupola furnaces, focuses on small-batch and custom-made production of gray iron castings.
