ArcelorMittal Gent (SIDMAR)

SIDMAR (Siderurgie Maritime) was founded in 1962 as a part of ARBED group. The construction aside from traditionally industrial center in southern part of Belgium began in following stages:

1964 - cold rolling mill
1966 - hot strip mill
1967 - blast furnace no.1
1968 - blast furnace no.2
1970 - coking plant

In 2002 ARBED was taken over by Arcelor. Annual production today is almost 5 mio tonnes of flat steel.
