Prima foundry, Benoni

Established in 1937 by Alexander Dingwall and William Price, Prima Foundry began its journey in Benoni, South Africa. The company´s name, "Prima," is a fusion of "Price" and "Mary," honoring the union of the founders´ children, Mary Dingwall and Les Price. ​

Starting with two 1t electric arc furnace, Prima produced approximately 50 tons of castings monthly. By 1948, the company expanded by acquiring additional land to establish a second foundry, known as the AD Foundry, in partnership with Robert Hudson Engineering. ​

In a significant development, Prima was acquired by ME Elecmetal in 2024, a global mining supply company headquartered in Chile. This acquisition aims to bolster ME Elecmetal´s ability to provide comprehensive solutions to mining operations worldwide. ​

Today, Prima Foundry stands as a testament to enduring innovation and commitment to the mining industry, poised to continue its legacy under new stewardship.
