OFZ Istebne, ferroalloys smelter
The very first smelting plant for the processing of silicon ferro-alloys in Slovakia was founded in 1952 in the town of Istebné. The construction was carried out by Váhostav Žilina in cooperation with the Hutní Montáže Ostrava.
Due to the rapid development of the metallurgical industry, a new plant was built in 1965 neighbouring village of Široká (Oravský Podzámok).
In 1989 the works were privatized and the OFZ Istebne company was founded.
The old smelter was shutdown in 2003.
