The world´s most modern coke plant was commissioned by ThyssenKrupp in 2003 within the Schwelgern harbour area. At the same time the old coke plant August Thyssen at Bruckhausen started to shutdown.

The plant consists of two batteries of 70 chambers. The coke is pushed 135 times pr day, the annual coke production is around 2.5 millions of tons.
