European unique plant using the MIDREX technology (chemical process of direct reduction iron ore into pellets) was built in 1968 in southern part of Hambug. Also known as "Hamburger Stahlwerke" until 1995 when ArcelorMittal bought the whole site.
The steel plant consists of one electical arc furnace (140t), 7-strand continuous caster and a wire rod mill.
