The Jesenice region was well known to local miners and smelters since the 14th century already. In the end of 19th century (1872) Lambert von Pantz founded the very first company "Kranjska industrijska družba" and discovering the process of ferromanganese melting in a blast furnace soon after. This revolutionary invention a immediately attracts attention and ensures european fame.
Another important development starts after 1960 when the heavy plate and steckel rolling mill was put into operation.
In 1992 Acroni Jesenice company was founded and integrated within SIJ (Slovenian Steel Group) later. In 2012 a major investments has been made. Brand new heavy plate rolling stand was commissioned, providing stainless quarto plates up to 2500 mm thickness.
