The mine in Rydułtowy is one of the oldest active collieries in Upper Silesia.
Its history began in 1806, when the lawyer Frederick von Sack and his wife Liza opened the very first pit called "Charlotte". It was located in the village of Czernica, but due to unfavourable geological conditions, mining was soon moved to the neighbouring village of Rydułtowy.
In 1855, the mine was connected to the railway line, which contributed significantly to its further development.
During the Second World War, the mine was renamed to "Kopalnia Rydułtowy".
In 1993 the mining was taken over by Rybnicka Spółka Węglowa S.A. and in 2003 the mine became part of Kompania Węglowa S.A.
The mine was merged with the nearby Anna mine in Pzow just one year later.
In the following year both plants were merged with the remaining collieries in the Rybnik area and continue to operate as "PGG S.A Oddział KWK ROW Ruch Rydułtowy".
