Kokerei Prosper, Bottrop

Kokerei Prosper, Bottrop

The Ruhr was once lined with dozens of coking plants. Until today survived only two independent plants - Schwelgern and Prosper.

The Prosper coking plant was commissioned in 1928 to replace several older and less productive units. Coke production began with 180 batteries, which were expanded by three more batteries during the 1930s.

At the end of World War II the entire plant was severely damaged by the bombing of the Ruhr area, but was quickly rebuilt in the following years.

During 1980-1989 all coke batteries were gradually replaced by new ones.

In 1989 the newly formed Ruhrkohle AG taken over the works and since 2011 the Prosper plant is part of the ArcelorMittal Group.
